CELEBRATING KNOWLEDGE, COMMUNITY AND CONNECTION
This Shavuot, we embrace learning, honour Israel, and grow stronger through understanding and allyship...
A NIGHT OF LEARNING
Tonight, we start the festival of Shavuot with a night of learning, called Tikkun Leil Shavuot.
Many synagogues in Melbourne will be hosting guest speakers on a range of Jewish-themed topics – often accompanied by a delicious piece of cheesecake. I urge you to visit a synagogue and commit yourself to an evening of Jewish learning. We come from a rich tradition of texts and thinkers, there is always more to learn and understand.
We encourage you to look at the community events calendar to find an event tonight.
JEWISH VICTORIA CELEBRATES ISRAEL WITH FRIENDS
Premier Jacinta Allan and Leader of the Opposition Brad Battin mingled with Jewish community leaders at the annual Yom Ha’atzmaut Cocktail Party. They were joined by Parliamentary colleagues, legal representatives, business leaders, Victoria Police leaders and special guests from diverse communities.
During her speech, the Premier thanked Jewish leaders for their input into recent changes to Victoria’s hate speech and vilification laws, and flagged changes to protest laws to better protect the community.
The JCCV has been at the forefront working with Government to ensure Victorian laws satisfactorily protect all communities, including the Jewish community.
ENHANCING KNOWLEDGE
The JCCV’s Jewish Immersion Program continues to go from strength-to-strength. This week, two new organisations completed training to enhance staff knowledge of the local Jewish community and understand local antisemitism. These organisations, both in the education sector, interact with Jewish people on a daily basis. The JCCV’s trained facilitators engaged in a conversational-style program to help staff work effectively with Jewish people.
Please email us at community@jccv.org.au if you are interested in hosting a Jewish Immersion Program in your workplace or at an organisation you are associated with.
THIS EOFY BECOME A JCCV SUPPORTER

Since October 7, 2023 there have been several cases of antisemitic behaviour in schools, workplaces and on the streets. JCCV has been taking action, and has created a case management system to better assist those in need.
This end of financial year, your generosity will help more people stand up to antisemitism.
