At the JCCV’s 86th Annual General Meeting we will celebrate two extraordinary leaders whose contributions have strengthened and inspired our community.
HONOURING RABBI YAAKOV GLASMAN AM
This year, the prestigious General Sir John Monash Award for outstanding commitment to the Jewish community will be awarded to Rabbi Yaakov Glasman AM.
For over 25 years, Rabbi Glasman has served as a guiding light, not only within the Jewish community but also throughout Victoria.
His leadership roles on both state and federal rabbinical councils have showcased his deep knowledge and inclusive mindset, inspiring hundreds through his talks and outreach efforts.
Rabbi Glasman’s work in fostering interfaith dialogue and social cohesion has transformed communal attitudes, especially toward vulnerable groups. His instrumental support in the election of the first female President of the St Kilda Hebrew Congregation exemplifies his commitment to progressive, positive social change.
Rabbi Glasman is a leading light of our community. He heads up one of our oldest congregations with a nod to the past but a thoroughly modern outlook. He brings energy and sensitivity to everything he does. His tireless work in building relationships between the Jewish and broader communities is invaluable and truly inspiring.
CELEBRATING LEO*: EMERGING LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
This year’s Sylvia Gelman Young Leader Award will be presented to Leo (name changed for security reasons), a dedicated and inspiring volunteer with the Community Security Group (CSG).
Known for his leadership and commitment, Leo led a team of 30 volunteers in 2024, integrating and empowering new members with his collaborative approach. His dedication to protecting Jewish life and culture is a model of selfless service, as he constantly uplifts his team without seeking personal accolades.
We are immensely grateful for the work of CSG volunteers who have kept us safe during these challenging times. Leo’s commitment and leadership, especially as a young volunteer, embody the spirit of resilience and dedication that drives our community forward. We are thrilled to honour his remarkable contribution.
Our awards will be presented at this year’s AGM as we reflect on the achievements and aspirations of the Victorian Jewish community. Please join us to celebrate the exceptional dedication of Rabbi Glasman, Leo, and all those who work tirelessly to create a vibrant, inclusive, and secure future for us all.
