SPECIAL UPDATE AHEAD OF ROSH HASHANA

Special update from JCCV President, Philip Zajac.

I write to you ahead of Rosh Hashana with another special update.

Following Sunday’s shocking display of support for terrorists on the streets of Melbourne, the JCCV has received confirmation from Police Minister Anthony Carbines that he has met with Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton to discuss the ongoing safety of the Victorian Jewish community.

As a result of that conversation, on top of the usual regular police patrols at this time of year, additional police will be deployed in areas around synagogues and Jewish community facilities during Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Police will also be providing additional resources to maintain the safety of our community at October 7 commemorations on Monday.

We can – and should – continue to observe Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur reassured that we can do so safely.

I thank Minister Carbines, the many Victoria Police officers involved and our remarkable team at CSG for their commitment to the safety and security of our Jewish community at this difficult time.

I remind you all to download CSG’s JEAP app or phone CSG on 1300 000 274 if you see anything suspicious over the High Holy Day period.

Shana Tova to you and your families, and please continue to pray for peace in Israel.
